On the morning of July 10, the Standing Committee of the Benthanh Group Trade Union, together with Comrade Mai Ngoc Thuan, Deputy Head of the Legal Policy Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, attended the handover ceremony of a “Union Shelter” to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, a trade union member from Benthanh Tourist Service Joint Stock Company.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, a hotel janitor, lives with her family in a narrow alley in District 7. Her husband works as a motorbike taxi driver, while their children are still undergoing vocational training. The family of four resides in a small attic measuring just 5m x 5m. The low ceiling has suffered severe water damage over time, with many sections deteriorating. During scorching summer days, the room becomes unbearably hot and suffocating. In the rainy season, water often seeps through, forcing the family to keep their doors shut, leading to excessive humidity and discomfort. For years, their daughter has slept in a hammock, while their son rests on a mattress placed near the balcony door.
Through the Workers’ Month initiative, Ms. Hoa received financial assistance to renovate the attic: VND 30 million from the Benthanh Group Trade Union and VND 40 million from both Benthanh Tourist Service Joint Stock Company and Benthanh Materials Joint Stock Company. Overwhelmed with joy and gratitude, Ms. Hoa expressed her deep appreciation as she now has a more spacious, well-ventilated, and comfortable home. Additionally, the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, the Benthanh Group Trade Union, sponsors, and company representatives also presented her with household appliances and cash gifts.

Speaking at the event, Comrade Huynh Thi Phuong Nam, Chairwoman of the Benthanh Group Trade Union, emphasized: “This initiative aligns with the resolutions set forth by the Trade Union Congress at all levels, driven by the principle of ‘No worker should live in a dilapidated home.’ The ‘Union Shelter’ program holds profound significance, ensuring that trade union members and workers have a safe and comfortable place to rest after long, exhausting workdays, thereby fostering stability and dedication to their workplaces. This initiative also serves as a commemorative project in honor of the 95th anniversary of the Vietnam Trade Union’s establishment (July 28, 1929 – July 28, 2024) and contributes to the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.”
