Overview of Benthanh Group

Benthanh Group is actively transforming, constantly setting higher challenges, more creative solutions, and creating greater value for the Benthanh Group system and the community.

1997 - 2002

In accordance with Decision No. 90/TTG dated March 7, 1994, by the Prime Minister regarding the continued restructuring of state-owned enterprises, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City issued Decision No. 7448/QĐ-UB-KT on December 26, 1997, to establish Benthanh Group, which includes member units, with the core being the Export-Import and Services Company of District 1 (Sunimex).

During this period, Benthanh Group operated under the model of a 90 State-owned Group, with a total of 9 independently accountable member enterprises, 10 enterprises with equity contributions from the Group, and 4 dependent accounting enterprises. The trading name of the Group at that time was Sunimex.

About us - Benthanh Group

Based on the potential and advantages of each member enterprise, the Group has operated in multiple sectors from the beginning, with the service sector playing a leading role.

Although it was established during the Asian financial and monetary crisis (1997-2000) and faced various operational challenges, all member enterprises operated effectively. Benthanh Group leveraged the strengths of its entire system and gathered resources to reorganize and prepare for the next phase of development.

2003 - 2009

On September 23, 2002, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 829/QĐ-TTg allowing Benthanh Group to operate under the pilot model of a parent company – subsidiary. On May 19, 2003, the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee issued Decision No. 1848/QĐ-UB to restructure the Group to operate under this model.

This marked a significant turning point, signaling a new phase of transformation in the operating model, laying the foundation for innovation and development across the entire system.

About us - Benthanh Group

During this period, most of the independent accounting and dependent accounting enterprises in the Group transitioned to joint-stock companies, incorporating additional businesses that were privatized by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee. The entire system now includes 36 enterprises operating under the new model, with a growing scale and increasing efficiency. By the end of 2009, the Group introduced a new brand identity, including a new logo and slogan, and changed its trading name from Sunimex to Benthanh Group, abbreviated as BTG.

2010 - 2017

In line with the roadmap for state-owned enterprise transformation, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee moved Benthanh Group to operate as a single-member limited liability company under Decision No. 3067/QĐ-UBND on July 10, 2010, with 41 member enterprises across the system.

During the early years of this phase (2010 – 2013), the enterprises faced a global economic crisis and recession. The entire system of Benthanh Group had to make great efforts to restructure its operations, develop new service types, enhance synergy, and overcome challenges to maintain stability.

The restructuring plan for Benthanh Group for the 2013 – 2015 period was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee under Decision No. 7435/QĐ-UBND on December 31, 2013. Accordingly, the Group focused on investing in its core business sectors, including Tourism Services, Commercial Services, and related fields such as Real Estate Services.

During the 2010 – 2017 period, alongside ensuring business efficiency, Benthanh Group focused on restructuring operations, restructuring corporate governance, connecting the entire system, and maximizing the value of the core resources of each member enterprise to increase internal strength, ensuring stability, sustainable development, and readiness for competition and integration. Additionally, during the 2013 – 2015 period, the Group successfully carried out the leadership transition of its top executives.
